1. Box camera:

Over several decades the box camera was the choice for typical amateur photographers as it was cheap and straightforward, but will still provide excellent results under various conditions. Box cameras were built with a single-element lens, a limited-range opening control, and a single-speed shutter.

2. Folding-Roll camera:

Next is the Folding-Roll Film Camera, which was also very popular but not as much as the box camera. The folding camera came in a few formats, but basically, it was a box camera's lens that was included in a movable disk that could slide back and forth on a rail, letting the lens change focus from close to long range.

Many complicated models were available but were more expensive and considered high quality. But, the most important benefit that they had over the box camera was their compact design when folded, which made it easier to pack and transport. There has been some minor renaissance in folding-roll film cameras in recent years, with the introduction of several new professional instruments. They are still appreciated for their large negative size and compact design.

3. Viewfinder-type camera:

Next is a Viewfinder type camera which does not use the lens to view the subject but instead depends on a separate camera viewing system for aiming and focus. The range finder camera allows focusing accurately by using two views of the same subject to adjust focus. This camera will have two images in the viewfinder. One is a portion of the viewer area and is usually slightly yellowish. The photographer will adjust the focus ring on the lens to move two images. When both are directly on top of each other, they blend and almost disappear, showing that the camera is in focus. The rangefinder will be accurate and quiet, and also weighs very light. It is also effective in taking pictures in low light conditions or for candid photographs. These cameras can easily be noticed because of their double-view windows in the front.
